SuperseLENTction

Festival Lent 2011 is behind us. Months of intense preparation, sixteen tiring days of execution, one day of recovery and at least two weeks of cleaning up and doing paperwork.

And how do people, who prepared the festival in order to provide the best Lent experience for you, dear visitors, see it?

This year’s programme with no doubt included some of the biggest musicians so far: Jimmy Cliff, Monster Magnet, Asian Dub Foundation, Trilok Gurtu, and Black Stone Raiders. They all filled the venues, provided us with unforgettable performances and made our Lent-all-stars list!

On the night of Jimmy Cliff’s concert, 4000 people gathered at the Central stage at the Drava river. Yes, four thousand! Carmina Slovenica’s performance also provided us with an emotional night full of patriotic feelings. Priceless.

This year, a lot of the performers came from the “dark continent”. Africa was represented by Kokolo Afrobeat, Ebo Taylor & Afrobeat Academy, Stewart Sukuma & Banda Nkhuvu, and Sékou Kouyaté.

This year, Festival Lent also served us some new dishes at the street food festival SladoLent, as well as brought some new rhythms at Creative Underground, the new festival venue.

The festival wouldn’t occur without the support of our numerous sponsors. Some of them had been supporting us for 19 years. We thank all of them for believing in us and wanting to be a part of our story.

Believe it or not, the festival’s organizing committee met a few days after the festival in order to evaluate this year’s festival and discuss the program for the explosive and cultural year 2012, when Maribor will come to life as the European Capital of Culture.

Dear all, see you at Lent 2012!
