FolkArt 2011 echoes

We could discuss all praises for hours … if we weren’t modest. This year, it seems the city was full of positive and happy faces and those, who like to complain, faded in the background. It is easier to criticise the things we haven’t seen or experienced before. Thank god we have different tastes and likings, but if you cannot find something to suit you in our cultural melting pot, it’s best you admit culture and art don’t interest you. That is why compliments from performers, that travelled the world and seen numerous festivals, mean much more to us.

Back to folklore.

The Croats were very curious and explored Maribor. They said they didn’t expected the festival to be as good as it was and agreed touring isn’t necessary if they can visit FolkArt every year.

The Poles were playful and tired from socializing, singing and dancing. They said the festival raised their expectations for folklore festivals.

The Irish said this was “The best festival ever!”  and the tight-up Ossetians were able to relaxed at the end of the FolkArt. Their usually strict group leader, Golde Meir, said they are happy with their performance and they felt great.

The Chileans were excited to be here, even though there is a two-month European tour ahead of them. They said our festival was the perfect start to their tour.

The Bulgarians worked hard to show off their professionalism and were impressed by the whole festival. Their effort showed at their perfect and excellent performances.

And for the Slovenes ... our home group is very proud of our festival and their slogan remains “FolkArt is the best tour!”

Alenka Klemenčič, FolkArt producer

"Thank you for all the attention. As a young parent, I must say the biggest surprise was Art Camp at the city park. Thank you and see you next year!" Borut Pelko, MARIBOR 2012 - European Capital of Culture coordinator "I decided to donate because I support Festival Lent and the organizers. It is a symbol of my support to the organizers of the festival. I wish you the best of luck and hope you successfully carry out the festival" Festival donor  "Festival Lent is one of the best festivals in our country and every year I get to see many great performances and concerts almost for free, since the price of one concert is usually higher than the price of the full-festival ticket (especially if you are a student, like myself)." Matej Ačko  "I had the honour to be able to help our festival and I wish you a lot of successful festivals in the future.” Zdenka Križanič
